Haverhill, MA – December 28, 2023 — Merrimac Municipal Light Department has received a national commendation from the American Public Power Association for its support in electric power restoration efforts in New England.

On March 16th and 17th, 2023, Merrimac Municipal Light Department sent 2 crew members to assist the New Hampshire Electric Coop for the town of Alton, which suffered widespread outages as a result of a heavy storm.

Merrimac Light was one of 22 crews across New England (MA, NH, VT, CT) to respond to New Hampshire’s request for mutual aid and restore power to the customers of Alton.

Merrimac’s First Class Lineman, Tyler Crawford notes “Our dedication and hard work allow others to be with their family during a state of disaster/emergency.”

“Merrimac Light Department might be small, but we are mighty. It is through mutual aid that we are able to maintain our three main standards: safe, reliable, low-cost energy. MMLD is proud to play such an important role in achieving these objectives.” says Merrimac Light’s General Manager, Mary Usovicz.

Merrimac Municipal Light Department participates in the American Public Power Association’s Mutual Aid Network, which coordinates with utilities and authorities during widespread power outages.
